A village that empties into three towns every morning
North Cornelly sits on junction 37, which is most of the story. You’re on the motorway in a minute, in Porthcawl in five, in Bridgend in ten and in Port Talbot not much longer. So the people working out of the village aren’t selling to the village.
Most of the businesses here are trades. Plumbers, sparks, roofers, builders, someone with a van and a landscaping trailer, cleaners covering three towns. The Kenfig industrial estate is on the doorstep and the Bridgend one isn’t far, so there’s a fair bit of business to business work alongside the domestic.
That’s a different problem from a shop on a high street. Nobody walks past you. Every job you get, somebody went looking for, and these days they went looking in a search box on a phone.
Hardly anybody types North Cornelly
Pyle and Kenfig Hill are the bigger names round here, and Porthcawl and Bridgend are what people default to. Someone in South Cornelly wanting a roofer types “roofer Porthcawl” or “roofer Bridgend”, they don’t type the village they’re stood in. So the village name on its own won’t carry a site, and the ones that do the work are the whole run of them: Kenfig, Mawdlam, Kenfig Hill, Cefn Cribwr, Pyle, and on into Porthcawl, Bridgend and Port Talbot.
Dunes, signal and load times
Kenfig nature reserve and the dunes are right there, which is lovely, and also means a fair few of your customers are ringing from somewhere with about one bar. Same on the lanes out towards Mawdlam.
A page built on a page builder, with a slider and a cookie banner and a screen full of tracking scripts, takes long enough on that connection that people give up and ring the next name down. Plain HTML with the words already in the file appears more or less straight away, and that’s most of what fast means. Photos are the other half of it, so I take what’s on your phone and handle them properly rather than putting full camera files up and hoping.
Ten minutes up the road
You’re ten minutes from me, so the first conversation happens in person unless you’d rather it didn’t. An hour at your kitchen table with your phone on it gets me the photos, the old site, whoever’s holding the domain, and the questions customers keep asking.
After that it’s messages and the odd call, and I’ll come back over when there’s something worth looking at together.
Hosting and email
For most sites I build there's no ongoing hosting cost and no monthly retainer. The domain renews once a year at list price, no commission from me, and it's registered in your name so you can take it elsewhere whenever you want.
Email goes on your own custom domain, setup properly so what you send lands in the inbox rather than the spam folder.
