Where I work.

Type a trade and a town into a phone and you get a map with three businesses on it before you get a single website. Those three are picked mostly on where the person is standing, what the Google Business Profile says the business does, and the reviews under it. Websites start below that, and they're the part I build.

Both halves have to agree. Listing carries one phone number and the site carries another, or the listing claims a category the site never mentions, and you've handed Google two versions of the same business with no way of telling which is right. Making them match is about an hour of work, cheapest thing on the list.

Then the words. People search small place names, Pencoed, Nottage, Skewen, Rhiwbina, rather than South Wales. If those names appear nowhere on your pages there's nothing for the search to match, however good the site looks. That's why every page here writes the villages out alongside the town.

A page per town is only worth having when there's something true to put on it. Barry searches differently to Maesteg, Barry being three trading areas wearing one name and Maesteg having a valley behind it. Cowbridge has an independent high street with farming country behind that. Port Talbot has a lot of people setting up on their own after twenty years of shifts, who've never had to make anybody find them before.

So each page says what people type in that town, which villages belong in your copy, and what I'd build for a business there. If two of them could swap town names and still read right, one of them shouldn't exist. That's why this list is shorter than the map I work across.

I'm in Bridgend. Anything inside about half an hour, which is most of this list, I'll drive to for the first conversation and come back when there's something worth looking at side by side. Swansea and Neath are nearer forty minutes, I'll still come out at the start, but I'm not pretending I'll be calling in every week after that.

An hour sat in your place with your phone on the table gets me the photographs, the real opening hours and the questions customers keep asking. That's the part that's quicker in person. The rest happens by message and the odd call, which works the same whether you're ten minutes away or three hundred miles.

If your town isn't on the list that isn't a no, it means I haven't written the page yet, usually because I'd be making half of it up. Tell me where you are and what you're trying to fix, and if somebody nearer would do it better I'll say so.
